Seriously, what are people doing when traveling through airport security? I dislike the TSA as much as the next guy, but there is a pretty simple procedure in place for flying with a firearm and tossing it in your carry-on bag isn’t it.

According to the TSA Blog (they have a blog?), the agency confiscated 181 firearms from carry-on bags in October alone.

I consider my sidearm to be in the same category as my wallet and cell phone – things that I have with me all of the time. With that in mind, I can see how some people could possibly, maybe forget that their firearm needs to be checked.

However, forgetting that you placed a firearm in a bag, off your body is irresponsible in my opinion.

One of the firearms was an FN Five-seveN. That’s not a cheap firearm to just misplace.

Contrary to what some people may believe, it’s 100% legal to fly with a firearm, you just have to declare it and check it. You should probably also make sure the firearm you’re traveling with is legal at your final destination so you aren’t arrested at baggage claim.

Also found last month in carry-on bags: several inert grenades, several samurai swords, loose ammunition, and the wiring kit for a land mine.
