Piers hasn’t had the best track records debating pro gun supporters on his show recently.

Morgan has resorted to shouting matches in the past when he begins losing a debate and in this case, he completely MADE UP statistics to support his viewpoint.

Morgan had Brietbart contributor and frequent gun rights author A.W.R. Hawkins on his show this week, and the video above shows part of the exchange between the two.

Morgan refutes Hawkins claims that Virginia’s violent crime rate fell while at the same time gun purchases soared by saying that Virginia had the highest murder rate in the US in 2009.

Doctor, can you please help me out here by properly expressing my reaction to Morgan’s claims?

Yes, thank you.

Now, for some real numbers. According to News Busters,

The FBI’s 2009 Crime In the United States report placed Virginia behind 23 other states plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico in the murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rate per 100,000 inhabitants. And in case Morgan was referring to the firearm murder rate, Virginia still did not have the highest in the country.

Some of the states with the highest murder and nonnegligent manslaughter rates that year included Louisiana (11.8), New Mexico (8.7), Maryland (7.7), Tennessee (7.3), and Alabama (6.9). In contrast, Virginia’s rate was 4.4 per 100,000 inhabitants.

I guess Piers is growing as a talk show host. Instead of insulting and talking over his guests when he is losing a debate, he now just makes things up.
