The president, speaking at a press conference 100 days after the Sandy Hook shooting, attempted to shame lawmakers and American citizens to support gun control initiatives.

“I want to make sure every American is listening today,” Obama said . “Less than 100 days ago that happened, and the entire country was shocked. And the entire country pledged we would do something about it and that this time would be different. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten. I haven’t forgotten those kids. Shame on us if we’ve forgotten.”

He said “tears aren’t enough, expressions of sympathy aren’t enough, speeches aren’t enough” and urged Americans to press their lawmakers to pass more gun control legislation.

“We’ve cried enough,” he said. “We’ve known enough heartbreak. What we’re proposing is not radical, it’s not taking away anybody’s gun rights. It’s something that if we are serious, we will do.”

The Democrats gun control bill is thought to be centered around universal background checks (aka de facto registration).
