UPDATE: It looks like the homeowner has been charged in the incident. Based on a follow up report it looks like this may have been a drug deal gone bad. We've removed it from the defensive gun use database, but will leave this article up for historical purposes.

Stock - Gun with bulletsThis story highlights the need to be prepared for violent crime at any time of the day.

At 9am, many people are either already at work, or getting ready to leave their home and start their day. This period of transition presents opportunity for criminals.

In Mobile, AL a suspected burglar attempted to make entry into a home in quiet neighborhood around 9am.

Fortunately, the homeowner was able to arm himself and open fire on the suspect.

Responding authorities located the body of the suspect near the front door of the home.

Local residents are shaken according to WKRG,

Neighbors tell News 5 their neighborhood is typically quiet and they’re worried because this could’ve happened to anyone of them. “It’s just kind of scary that my kids and I are a stone’s throw away from it,” says a neighbor.

This is the 25th defensive gun use we’ve documented in the state of Alabama and the 1,107th defensive gun use we’ve documented overall.
