The parents of Trayvon Martin aren’t done addressing the public just yet.

Earlier this week, we reported that Tracy Martin, Trayvon’s father wanted his son’s name attached to an anti concealed carry bill to carry on his legacy.

Now, Trayvon’s mother is speaking out, and she is essentially blaming Florida’s self defense laws for the death of her son.

According to CNN,

“Wrap your mind around no prom for Trayvon, no high school graduation for Trayvon … all because of a law — a law that has prevented the person who shot and killed my son” from paying “for this awful crime,” Sybrina Fulton said Friday afternoon at the National Urban League Conference in Philadelphia.

Fulton’s comments follow the acquittal of George Zimmerman 2 weeks ago in the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin. An all female jury found that Zimmerman acted in self defense when he shot Martin.

The case has also caused several Democratic politicians to speak out on “stand your ground” self defense laws. Stand your ground laws require no duty to retreat before resorting to deadly force when you are the victim of a crime.

While Zimmerman did not argue a stand your ground defense, the jury was instructed on the statute in the jury instructions.
