According to several media reports, First Lady Michelle Obama is turning her attention to gun control as one of her chief causes for the second Obama presidential term.

In a classic move from the Democrat anti-gun playbook, the FLOTUS (First Lady of the United States) immediately sought to create an emotional link between children and gun control.

According to the Washington Post,

A mother to a teen and a tween, Mrs. Obama argues that the debate is also about the country’s obligation to help kids like these grow up and become adults. Several current and former students at Chicago’s Harper High School were killed by gunfire within the past year…

…Aides say the first lady isn’t making gun violence a new and distinct issue, but is folding it into her work encouraging youth to focus on getting an education.

The FLOTUS was previously focused on reducing childhood obesity and improving the fitness of young people during the president’s first term. I guess she solved those problems so she is able to now take on the hot button issue of gun control.

It is unclear what, if any, legislation the FLOTUS will be giving her backing to at the federal level, or if she will try to get involved with state gun laws.

Federal gun control efforts fizzles in the Senate back in April when none of the proposed legislation was able to secure enough votes to move forward. It is thought that gun control advocates may be getting ready to make a second push for gun control, perhaps this time targeting self defense laws rather than legislation governing the ownership of firearms.
