Meet The Family George Zimmerman Saved from an Overturned Vehicle
AS we learned yesterday, George Zimmerman apparently helped save a family of four from an overturned vehicle just days after he was acquitted in the murder trial of Trayvon Martin. The jury found that Zimmerman acted in self defense.
Now, the Daily Mail is reporting the identity of the family as Dana and Mark Gerstle and their two unidentified children, aged eight and four.
Here are two Facebook photos of the family, who as of yet, have not made any public statements on the accident.
According to the NY Daily News, George Zimmerman briefly came out of seclusion just four days following his acquittal of the 2012 shooting of Trayvon Martin as the jury found he acted in self defense.
Zimmerman’s brief excursion wasn’t to speak to the press or travel though. No, Zimmerman, helped save a family of four from an overturned SUV on the side of the interstate.
Zimmerman retrieved an emergency fire extinguisher from his car and made sure the overturned vehicle wasn’t in danger of burning before acting to remove the passengers.
According to Sanford police, Zimmerman pulled over and assisted a family of four out of an overturned SUV at the intersection of I-4 and route 417, less than 1 mile from where the 2012 shooting took place.
Zimmerman gave a brief statement to a police officer, who recognized him, before leaving the area.
According to a statement made to the Daily News by Zimmerman’s legal team,
“There was a family trapped in there,” Vincent said. “George was able to help the family get out of the car before the first responders got there.”
Zimmerman was acquitted of the 2012 killing of Trayvon Martin over a week ago by an all female jury who found that Zimmerman acted within the bounds of Florida’s self defense laws when he shot Trayvon Martin.
The acquittal has sparked a national debate on race, gun control and self defense laws, specifically so called “stand your ground” laws. While Zimmerman’s lawyers didn’t argue a stand your ground defense in court, language from the statute was included in the jury instructions.
Some protests in the past week have sparked isolated incidents of crime and violence as people protest the court decision.
