A school in Maryland has suspended a 6 year old student for making a gun gesture with his thumb and forefinger and then saying “Pow” to another student.

The student was suspended for one day.

The student’s family has retained legal counsel saying they feel the boy was treated wrongly and is too young to understand the complex social issues at hand about why such an action may be inappropriate.

The school also did not call in the parents to discuss their concerns, but simply issued the suspension and sent the family a letter over the holidays.
