We reported on former United States Marine Ryan Jerome being arrested for trying to check his handgun at The Empire State Building back in January. Jerome has a valid carry permit in his home state and thought it was legal to carry in NY with it as well (as it is in most states).

Jerome is now fighting the charges and rejected a no jail time plea from prosecutors. Jerome and his lawyers say that all charges should be dropped. If convicted in court of illegally carrying a firearm Jerome could face a minimum sentence of one year in prison.

Many people believe New York City’s gun laws are unconstitutional as it is extremely hard, if not impossible, for an average private citizen to get a permit to carry a gun outside their home and even the process for purchasing firearms is time consuming and expensive. New York City has some of the harshest gun laws in the US.

Jerome with find out March 20th if he is indicted.
