Liberal Rainn Wilson (Dwight from The Office) and filmmaker Michael Moore cite a fake article about the NRA from the parody news site The Onion.

The Onion is a parody site which writes fake and over the top articles to poke fun at current events.

The article in question has the following headline, “NRA Sets 1,000 Killed In School Shooting As Amount It Would Take For Them To Reconsider Much Of Anything”.

The NRA obviously never said such a thing and everyone knows The Onion, which has been around for decades is a parody news organization, right?

Apparently Moore and Wilson do not.

Both cited the article in tweets to their millions of followers on Twitter.

Wilson later tweeted, “Gun worshippers have no sense of humor. Of course I knew that article was from the Onion. My link was faulty was all.”

When you’re addressing an audience of over 3.5 million isn’t it prudent to point out what is fact and what is parody?

The tweets are documented on the Twitter news site Twitchy.
