A couple of weeks ago we reported the story about the NY newspaper who created an interactive map of all pistol permit holders in some counties in New York. The information is available as a matter of public record in NY, but it has never been as easily accessed as it currently is on the map.

Former burglars have warned that the map is a virtual shopping list for potential thieves. They could choose homes without guns for easy targets or carefully select homes with guns in order to steal firearms.

Well it’s already happened that one of the homes that is listed on the map as having guns has been the target of a robbery, and it appears the thieves went straight for the gun safe.

From Newyork.newsday.com, “At least two burglars broke into a home on Davis Avenue at 9:30 p.m. Saturday but were unsuccessful in an attempt to open the safe, which contained legally owned weapons, according to a law enforcement source. One suspect was taken into custody, the source said.”

A bill is scheduled to be introduced today in the NY State Senate that would protect the identity of gun permit holders.

In NY you need a permit to simply purchase a gun.

This is why i stay FAR away from NY. They do everything they can to hurt Gun owners and this is just another step. Criminals like easy jobs, and this map made it VERY easy for them.

Criminals hate gun owners, NY politicians hate gun owners. It’s no coincidence that the cities and states with the highest level of corruption in governance have the strictest gun laws. People don’t want to be held accountable for their actions, and politicians, like criminals, fear an armed resistance if they go too far in suppressing the rights of the populace.

This is exactly the reason why the newspaper that published the information about the firearms owners should be boycotted and drove out of business. I would hold that newspaper legally accountable for anything that happens to any of those gun owners. What good will it do NY to file a new bill to make the names private now?? Isn’t the genie already out of the bottle now that the irresponsibility of the newspaper has already ran their add and caused irreparable harm and invasion of privacy to all of the legal owners out there? New Yorkers should run that newspaper as well as that reporter that thought it was a good idea straight out of town…. Or better yet deport that reported along with that jerk bag Piers Morgan.

When I saw this on Twitter I knew that it was going to cause a problem for gun owners as well as non gun owners. I was not the only one that thought or said it would be a problem. They people that were listed said it and even some of the bad guys were saying it. The bad guys were saying it gave them the info that they wanted to know when they wanted to rob a place. They said that they wanted to know if guns were in the home or not. And that this list gave them the info that they wanted. If I was on the list and my home was broken into I’d get a lawyer and I’d be thinking of taking leagl action against the news paper that printed my info and gave all of the bad guys the info that I had guns in my home. And I’d go for the highest amount that I could get and make them stop asking for this info to print in the future. They put law abiding citizens in danger by printing this info for bad guys to use when they want to rob a home for whatever reason. It was wrong and the still did it. I know about the First Amenment, but it still was not the right thing to do.

But no one on the anti-gun side listens. They just refuse. If you don’t toe their party line, you’re shut out.

I’m glad I live in a state that passed a law that bars anyone from knowing who has a gun permit except law enforcement.
