As you may or may not have heard, an anti gun group is planning a boycott of Starbucks starting on Feb 14, 2012. This is because Starbucks has a corporate policy of honoring state and local laws regarding the carry of firearms in their stores. This means that if it’s legal to carry a gun in a state, Starbucks corporate policy will respect that right and welcome gun carriers. Starbucks is not “pro gun”, but rather neutral on the subject. This is really all we can ask as gun owners and carriers of any private business. So, in opposition to the boycott and to show support for a company which respects the Constitution and state laws, gun owners are encouraged to spend money with Starbucks on February 14, 2012 to show your support and offset any boycott (right now the boycott has a couple hundred participants while the support Starbucks event on Facebook has over 18,000 confirmed participants).

Many owners are making it a point to openly carry a sidearm (where legal of course) or pay with $2 bills (you can get them from your bank) to let Starbucks see that they have the support of the 2A community.

I’ve also heard several arguments such as, “I’m not spending $5 on a cup of coffee no matter what.” Listen, unless you’re getting a complex espresso based drink it’s hard to get your bill up to $5 at Starbucks. A regular small/medium cup of house blend is just as affordable as any other place you can buy coffee.

There is an official Facebook event here that you can RSVP to: http://www.facebook.com/events/261743290558881/

I would like to express my thanks to Starbucks for their support of the people, support of the Constitution, and in particular their support for the second amendment right of the people to keep and bear arms. Concealed Carry Permit holders tend to be more respectful and more aware of the law than most people elected to public office and will go out of their way to be as unobtrusive and low key as they possibly can so as not to unduly alarm the retail public.

Congrats to Starbucks for actually staying neutral on the carry front. It’s amazing that such a giant corporate entity adheres to local laws. So many think they are above it.
    Bravo S. Bucks!

I am usually anti-Star Bucks because I like D&D coffee more but I have to give them props for following the Constitution. Way to go, SB!

I also like Dungeons and Dragons coffee more. It has a sort of magical zing to it that I can’t seem to get from Starbucks bland coffee. Plus they seem to burn their beans…

I don’t think our small town has a Starbucks shop, but many grocery stores & Wal-Mart sell Starbucks coffee in packages. I’ll start buying Star Bucks in packages (P.S. Walmart sells ammo and long guns, also).

  8. February 14, 2012 8:54 AM EDT

I am not a coffee drinker but I will frequent
Star Bucks just to support them for honoring
My Second Amendment! I am not Jesse James
But I value My Life! Come on America, let’s
Out number the crooks! Let’s make the crooks
Wonder how many of us CARRY!

I can appreciate Starbucks trying to save face by supporting the 2nd Amendment, but I still have not forgiven them for the response given to the soldiers in Iraq when one wrote to Starbucks corporate office asking for coffee to be sent to Iraq since there are no Starbucks there. The response went something like “Starbucks does not support the war in Iraq or the soldiers in it. There will be no coffee sent there”. Somehow, the letter made it to the Pentagon and contracts for coffee shops on military bases around the world were canceled for Starbucks and awarded to Dunkin Donuts to fill the gap. I did not and do not support any part of that war, it was unessessary, there were no ‘weapons of mass destruction’ found, but those soldiers were there to PROVE that!I support THEM! It kinda ticked me off a little………I still don’t like Starbucks because of that incident.

I don’t drink coffee, but I’ll make a point of stopping by for some of their other products this week. It would be nice if more businesses chose neutrality. It’s less work and fewer problems on their part to simply not try to impose their views on their customers.

In Oregon Starbucks harass people for carrying and train their employees to look for prints and call the cops. They may have a neutral policy at a corporate level, but locally they are anti-gun.

My experience at a Beaverton, Oregon Starbucks was completely different.
I open-carried my 1911A1 (a relatively large .45 cal. handgun) and ordered the most expensive drink and pastry they had. As I paid, I said “On behalf of responsably and legally armed Americans, I’d like to express my appreciation for Starbucks corporate firearms policy of following local laws”. She: we serve cops here all the time, why should we ban guns?”. Me, pointing across the street at Peets: Your competition is posted ‘No guns allowed’. They serve cops, but they won’t serve me. That’s why you get my business and they don’t”. She thanked me and gave me a 2-for-1 valentine coupon. We spoke briefly about the anti-gun and anti gay boycotts and what they had in common (eg, no visible presence today). I enjoyed my fancy drink and coffee cake (delicious!) and I continued to work.

      Thank you, Starbucks!

This comes from someone who said she would never “carry” until I was broken into. Luckily he turned around when he saw the shotgun. After that, I obtained a permit, gun and I practice. I applaud Starbucks and and challenge ALL others before only the criminals will be allowed to carry guns.

If you think S-bucks is good, you’d LOVE Green Beans Coffee! That company really supports carrying — it’s actually required in their cafes overseas! They are on military bases in combat zones. Best company EVER! Sooooo much better than S-bucks or D&D.

BTW… these guys really made life better for me overseas. They really need more credit & publicity. :o )

Thank you, Starbucks, for respecting the rights of gun owners, and the Second Amendment, in our country. Many, many people in this country are concealed carry legal; they are safe, responsible people. The average American would be shocked to know how many citizens around them are carrying, ready to protect themselves and others. And why would people be surprised to know? Because we don’t run around bragging about it, acting cocky or stupid just because we carry. The concealed carry population is not the one people hear about in the news, going ballistic on unsuspecting individuals. Few people know, too, that because of the American citizens’ right to bear arms there was no attack launched on American soil by the Japanese in WWII. So again, thanks for your support, Starbucks. That is huge in my book.

I stand down and humbly apologize to Starbucks for passing along a message w/o proven facts! Altho, I still wouldn’t spend an hour’s wages for a cup of coffee, I do have a newfound respect for Starbucks for standing behind our troops regardless of support for or against the war, itself. Thank you, Starbucks for standing behind the 2nd Amendment.

You have to make sure the Starbucks you are going to doesn’t serve alcohol. Carrying into an alcohol serving establishment is against the law as most carry & concealers know.

It’s only against the law in a few states. Always check your local/state carry laws and be informed.

I buy coffee from the competitor several times a week. I and my family will be stopping by STARBUCKS instead from now on. Thank you Starbucks for allowing this day for legal Gunowners to visit your establishment. It shows true leadership from your Corporation, not to fold to the pressures of the Anti-Gun lobby. We will be asking our friends and firearms enthusiasts to support you also by stopping in. Sincerely, Jim Gibbons

I think it’s nice that Starbucks has voted on a common sense issue choosing the neutral stand. I’m a little more proactive, but sometimes you only get part of the story. I get some Some Starbucks Every Chance I get, which is probably to much, a lot for most people. Being in the ARMY fot 16 years, it just grows on you!!
