Dianne Feinstein is ramping up her efforts to get her proposed Assault Weapons Ban passed and is also calling for limits on magazine capacity.

Speaking in the Senate Feinstein said some interesting things.

“The time has come, America, to step up and ban these weapons,” Feinstein said. “The other very important part of this bill is to ban large capacity ammunition feeding devices — those that hold more than 10 rounds. We have federal regulations and state laws that prohibit hunting ducks with more than three rounds. And yet it’s legal to hunt humans with 15-round, 30-round, even 150-round magazines. Limiting magazine capacity is critical, because it is when a criminal, a drug dealer, a deranged individual has to pause to change magazines and reload that, the police or brave bystanders have the opportunity to take that individual down.”

Well, let’s look at this in 2 parts. First off, and I’m not a lawyer by any means, but I’m pretty sure that we do in fact have some laws on the books making murder illegal. Maybe Feinstein has a private island where she hunts people (with 10 round magazines of course), I don’t know.

Second, her statement that a shooter can be taken down when they have to reload their gun has been proven wrong time and time again. As anyone who has taken any advanced training courses or shoots in competitions knows, it takes less than a second to perform a tactical reload. Sheriffs in Indiana even made a video showing that the capacity of a magazine has little to no impact on the speed at which one can get rounds down range.
