Nikki HaleyThe generally pro-gun Nikky Haley (note photo of her shooting a machine gun in a dress) has announced, via Facebook, that she will sign S308, which will change carry rights for the better in South Carolina.

Once the bill becomes law, carry permit holders will be able to legally carry their firearms in restaurants and bars that serve alcohol. However, carriers are not permitted under law to consume alcohol while carrying.

Haley posted the following update to her Facebook page,

She is getting some negative comments on the post, so feel free to drop in and leave a word of support.

Personally, I don’t think this bill goes far enough to revamp South Carolina’s carry laws, but it’s at least a step in the right direction.

As a Georgia resident who sometimes travels to SC, I wish the state would address how they handle non-resident carry permits. Currently, South Carolina does not allow non-residents to apply for their carry permit. They will also not honor any state’s permit that does not require training (Georgia does not require training to get a permit). OK, OK, their state their laws. However, the kicker is that they don’t honor ANY non-resident permits. So even though South Carolina honors both Florida’s and Utah’s permits, and I possess both of those permits, I still cannot carry legally in South Carolina because I am not a resident of those states. There is no way for me to legally carry a gun in South Carolina despite possessing multiple carry permits, simply because of where my residence is.

OK. So maybe that got a little ranty. Sorry about that. Anyway, good job Governor Haley.
