According to TheHill.com, President Obama is quietly advancing the administration’s new gun control agenda.

The president recently used his powers of executive order to introduce a measure that will bolster the nation’s background check system, allowing the system to check even more personal information than ever.

Also coming from an executive order is federal research on gun violence and a multi million dollar ad campaign on safe gun ownership.

From TheHill.com,

The executive steps will give federal law enforcement officials access to more data about guns and their owners, help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill, and lay the groundwork for future legislative efforts.

Is anyone else worried about the “lay groundwork for future legislative efforts” part of that?

This move is coming ahead of a planned gun control bill to be released by Senate Democrats centered around universal background checks (aka de facto registration). That bill is expected to be filibustered by Republicans in the Senate and opposed by the Republican controlled House.
