Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America pulled no punches in a recent interview with Fox News.

Pratt was blunt when he said that current legislation, which created so called “gun free zones” created an atmosphere for mass murder.

According to the Fox News interview (video above via Mediaite),

“Every one of our mass murders in our country has occurred in places where guns are prohibited,” Pratt said. “The legislation that is on the books is lethal; it is killing people. All of these gun-free zones are murder magnets, and we simply have got to get rid of them. It’s an illusion to think that somehow we’re going to be safer because we can’t have a gun in a particular area, because the bad guy’s going to have a gun.”

Pratt went on to dispute the poll number that 90% of Americans supported expanded background checks. He brought up the point that both GOA and the NRA found the opposite to be true when they polled their members.

In fact, when we polled readers of this site, we found that nearly 90% of our readers do not support expanding background checks to private sales, as the federal legislation which failed in the Senate in April would have done.

If there is one thing that members of Congress universally want, it’s to be reelected. If they truly believed 90% of their constituents wanted these laws in place they would be passed today and signed into law tomorrow.

GOA has taken a hardline approach to oppose any new gun legislation over the last year and they continue to be one of the only organizations which is actively pushing for the repeal of current gun control laws.
