A girl in Philadelphia was berated in front of her class and searched in front of other students after she accidentally brought a piece of paper, folded in the shape of a gun, to school.

The girl is now suffering from nightmares and can barely make it through the interview in the video below without crying.

The paper gun was made by the girl’s grandfather the day before. The girl put the piece of paper in her pocket, forgot about it, and then went to throw it away when she found it in her pocket at school.

A school official reportedly said that he should have the girl arrested before searching her in front of other students.

The family is shaken up. They are now holding their daughter out of school for fear of harassment.

The school board has yet to comment on the issue.
