Gabby Giffords Fires Gun for Publicity, Then Calls for More Gun Control
Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly have embarked on a 7 day anti gun tour to push for more gun control legislation in various parts of the country.
Their first stop, a Las Vegas shooting range. Nevada’s governor recently vetoed universal background check legislation that was passed by the state legislature there.
Taking a handgun in her left hand, Giffords fired a single shot down range and then waved to the crowd. This was supposedly the first time Giffords has fired a gun since she was shot by Jared Lee Loughner in January of 2011. That was the end of the portion of the event that could be considered anything remotely pro-gun.
Giffords and Kelly tried to make the connection that they were proud gun owners, but support stricter legislation.
According to POLITICO,
“Some might consider me an unlikely advocate for gun rights because I sustained terrible injuries in a violent shooting,” Giffrods wrote in an op-ed published Monday in USA Today. “But I’m a patriot, and I believe the right to bear arms is a definitive part of our American heritage.”
