It looks like former NFL star, and 2 time Pro Bowler Lito Sheppard has a better understanding of how to prevent mass shootings than most of our politicians (especially the ones in California).

The former cornerback and current Second Amendment advocate spoke to TMZ following the Isla Vista killing spree about gun control and why he feels that having more law abiding gun owners who carry firearms makes the world safer.

According to TMZ,

If you were in a situation like this [Santa Barbara], and you had more legal gun carriers with guns, you could stop it,” Sheppard says.

“Like, if you were in a mall and someone started shooting and you had some good people with guns there, you might be able to stop them. Or maybe you would lose only one person or two people instead of like 100.”

When TMZ asked Sheppard if he thought more gun control was needed, he responded,

“It doesn’t make any sense for them to make it tougher for responsible gun owners to get access.”

“Making it tougher to get the guns will just result in a bigger black market for them.”

Sheppard’s comments are a breath of fresh air in the gun control debate. Typically, many people who are in the public eye tend to speak out against gun ownership.
