On Thursday we reported that libertarian activist Adam Kokesh, in an act of civil disobedience, loaded and held a shotgun in Washington, DC’s Freedom Plaza, between the White House and the Capitol. The act was recorded (see video above) and uploaded to Kokesh’s Youtube channel.

Firearms carry is all but completely illegal in DC, and even possessing a gun is a long, drawn out process requiring permits and registration. It’s probably safe to say Kokesh didn’t go through the lengthy and costly process to make sure that shotgun was legally possessed in DC.

Now, according to POLITICO, the DC Police are investigating the matter.

Washington Metropolitan Police and the U.S. Park Police said in a statement Thursday they are aware of the video and are currently investigating.

“The Metropolitan Police Department and U.S. Park Police are aware that today Adam Kokesh posted a video that appears to have been taken in Freedom Plaza in Northwest, D.C. We are in the process of determining the authenticity of the video.”

Kokesh had originally scheduled a 1,000 person open carry march from Virginia into Washington, DC. However, that march was cancelled after numerous concerns were raised including the fact that many people participating would not realize how many laws they would be breaking, concern for safety, and the fact that the DC Police committed to arresting every participant of the march.
