Cheaper Than Dirt Donates $100,000 to Second Amendment Foundation
Cheaper Than Dirt (CTD) has made a $100,000 donation to the Second Amendment Foundation (SAF).
CTD came under fire in December for their high prices during panic buying and their decision to briefly stop online gun sales.
SAF is a gun rights organization who fights to expand and protect Second Amendment rights in the courts. They have won several landmark rulings including the Heller case.
Here is the press release put out by SAF.
For Immediate Release: 2/14/2013
BELLEVUE, WA – The Second Amendment Foundation today announced that CheaperThanDirt has made an unprecedented contribution of $100,000, making the online sporting goods retailer SAF’s first-ever Diamond Level sponsor.
Created in response to the generous donation from CheaperThanDirt, the Diamond level of sponsorship indicates the highest level of support for SAF’s continued efforts to restore firearms rights “one lawsuit at a time,” as SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb explains it.
A partial list of recent SAF legal triumphs include Moore v. Madigan, Woollard v. Sheridan, Chan v. Seattle and the landmark Supreme Court decision in McDonald v. Chicago.
SAF wins outside the courtroom, too. On Feb. 5 in Oak Harbor, Wash., a combination of educational and grass roots efforts backed by the promise of legal action from the SAF persuaded city leaders to actually follow state law – a result of the SAF Preemption Legal Project. The SAF Preemption Legal Project assists cities and counties in achieving compliance with state firearms laws through education and when required – litigation.
SAF educational programs include the annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, the publication of TheGunMag.com and Women & Guns, and providing a variety of other publications.
The support of CheaperThanDirt for the right of law abiding persons to keep and bear arms is beyond question and their generous sponsorship of SAF demonstrates the sincerity of their support for SAF’s efforts to protect and restore firearms rights.
“The level of support from CheaperThanDirt both delighted and shocked me,” said SAF Director of Development Ray Carter. “SAF has never before received a single donation of this size and by itself CheaperThanDirt’s contribution will make possible a major expansion of SAF legal action and education efforts. We are privileged to consider CheaperThanDirt a partner in our efforts.”
The Second Amendment Foundation (www.saf.org) is the nation’s oldest and largest tax-exempt education, research, publishing and legal action group focusing on the Constitutional right and heritage to privately own and possess firearms. Founded in 1974, The Foundation has grown to more than 650,000 members and supporters and conducts many programs designed to better inform the public about the consequences of gun control. In addition to the landmark McDonald v. Chicago Supreme Court Case, SAF has previously funded successful firearms-related suits against the cities of Los Angeles; New Haven, CT; New Orleans; Chicago and San Francisco on behalf of American gun owners, a lawsuit against the cities suing gun makers and numerous amicus briefs holding the Second Amendment as an individual right.

Its a good start… They’ll have to do more than that to earn my business back though.
Is this some of $ they made when they jacked their prices from 10.00 a 30 round magazine to like 60.00
Boy talk about rape
The sad truth is that they must be making considerable profits, or CTD wouldn’t have made such a large donation. Seems to me that since this SAF, The actual Second Amendment, and capitalism are all things I support, this is a good thing to have happened.
CTD got that money from the price gouging they did.
Screw CTD and their fickle BS.
if it burned I wouldn’t piss on it.
This leach of a company needs to keep losing money into bankruptcy … I AM NOT for sale!
Pffft. Sounds like a tax break for all the gouging they did. Not doing business with them again. Nope. Never.
I was shocked to the reaction of CTD, for a Media Blitz against Gun Rights, and Ownership. I will also add, this is just the beginning of attacks against we the people, I will not run and hide, no matter the circumstances, for this is not what the Patriots can do, or even consider.
Good for CTD, however after the terrible price gouging they did I WILL NEVER SHOP WITH THEM AGAIN ! and I mean NEVER AGAIN !
I guess they finally sold an AR15 magazine?
Good for CTD. But the only time I will ever shop there again is at their going out of business sale. The way they gouge their customers. Sorry, “No soup for you”
Let’s bicker amongst ourselves after all this bullsh*t is over. We have bigger enemies right now.
They better donate a hell of a lot more than that to get my business back!

1. When there is a ‘run’ on any commodity, demand increases while supply stays the same. That means prices go up. And that is not a bad thing…
2. Increased prices cause suppliers to increase production, which brings prices back down. It also means a net increase in the commodity: guns, ammo, magazines.
3. Lastly, but most importantly, the increase in prices helps to keep people from hoarding the commodity and helps ensure that the people who need the commodity the most to get them. For example, someone who already has an AR would probably not be as willing to pay the increased price as a first time buyer.
The price increase is a natural market response to an artificial, government intervention. CTD realized that the price increase was artificial, stopped selling guns, and had to make money somehow…so they recouped with accessories. Remember, they have to buy guns to replace what they sell, and those prices went up also.
Disclaimer: I neither work for, am associated with, or have ever bought anything from CTD in my life.
CTD will never have my buisiness again. And many online forums members as well as my local gun clubs have blacklisted this scum company.
I am retired Military, working in a large Machine shop that is in the business end of making parts for DOD, Raytheon, Las Alamos, Sandia Labs, Barber Nichols, NASA, and countless others, That being said, I have tons of friends and partnered relations that are, or will start boycotting CTD.
I fully understand that they have to run a business and make profits. The money gesture of CTD was cool but not enough when you think of the magnitude of the stupidity of price gouging.
CTD will be one of those that could lose allot (if not everything) when/if certain bills are to be put in place. You would think at this point they would go “Full Throttle” to avoid this.
But…in CTD’s defense they are not the only culprits of price gouging!
I ENCOURAGE ALL RETAILERS IN THIS AREA TO DO THE SAME DONATIONS AND MORE PR!!!
They need to keep not only THEIR business clients levels back, but also to bring back those consumers that feel betrayed. When/if they do this they can effectively stop their own self-inflicted downfall.
Disclaimer:
We are under re-consideration waiting a more in depth public response from the management of CTD.
Advise:
CTD would benefit by listening to their customer base, not to exclude boards and groups like, Prepper, survivalist, gun advocate, etc. even…………..You guessed it, the “Tin Foil guys” need love too!
