According to a Gallup poll released recently 54% of Americans have a favorable opinion of the NRA while only 38% have an unfavorable opinion.

President Obama currently has a 52.3% approval rating for comparison.

The poll also showed that a majority of Americans favor stricter gun laws, but it does not elaborate if that means improving the background check system or an all out assault weapons ban, so take that one with a grain of salt.

A recently released poll from Rasmussen Reports shows that 65% of Americans polled believe that the purpose of the Second Amendment is protect the American people from tyranny.
